In early 2017, PLENA begun a successful research collaboration with IC-RACE Lab to design, conduct, and disseminate culturally responsive and competent research with a focus on the intersectionality of Latinx identity and race. The latest collaboration between PLENA and IC-RACE, Acculturation Among Puerto Ricans in the U.S. Mainland: Examining the Role of Skin Color, Context of Reception, and Perceived Discrimination (under review), examined how factors such as skin color and ethnic/racial discrimination influenced the bidimensional acculturation of Central Florida Puerto Ricans.
Led by Dr. Nayeli Y. Chavez-Dueñas and Dr. Hector Y. Adames, the IC-RACE Lab seeks to understand issues around colorism, skin-color differences, parenting styles, immigration, unaccompanied minors, multiculturalism, race relations, and how these variables influence the wellbeing of Latinx communities.
¡BIEN! is Dr. Capielo Rosario's research home. Although no longer an active member of the team, Dr. Capielo Rosario maintains an ongoing research collaboration with her former advisor Dr. Edward A. Delgado-Romero and many of the team's current members. The latest collaboration between PLENA and ¡BIEN!, Acculturated and Aculturaos: Testing Bidimensional Acculturation Among Central Florida and Island Puerto Ricans (under review), is a timely contribution to the acculturation literature as it systematically evaluated different acculturation models among the second largest Latinx community. This is also the first study to measure the acculturation of island Puerto Ricans.
Led by Dr. Delgado-Romero, ¡BIEN! is a diverse team of scholars who are interested in cultural and linguistic competent psychological research and service.
